Playing UK without TOA?

Hi all

I've taken a long break from DAOC (stopped a few months before TOA came out
in the UK.)

I'm debating giving it another shot sometime but can't really afford to pick
up TOA at the moment.

My characters were mid 40s when I left - I could try to take part in pvp but
usually got butchered *g*

So... is it worth coming back without TOA or do you have to have it these
days?

Many people play without TOA it's not a problem... you can't have ML that
all...

You can have NF 😉

AS far as I know, regular ToA (non-artifact) items can be bought from
consignment merchants, traded, etc. Classic and SI have patches that
allow you to have ToA-equipped toons act the same way.

As for your friar spec, I don't see any problem with your template.
Clerics are the buffbot of choice, not friars. Friars are more leather
fighters with heal/rezz. Your base enhances will be as high as your toon.
You will be lacking in the self buffs, but if you can live with that,
others should be able to, as well.

You will ofc miss the ML's, some ppl say you NEED them, but alot of ppl are
getting along fine without them.

Another problem would be artifacts, some of them are a HUGE advantage and
some are just pain in the ass when you finally get them, they might make a
small diffenrence in RvR, but nothing a sound tactic can't beat.

Thanks for the feedback guys.

The one thing that bugs me is I've got a wierd spec - I'm a friar but I was
aiming for staff / rejuv (I don't know the numbers since I haven't played in
ages but I was planning on taking my rejuv up enough that I would have the
first ticking health regen spell, and maybe a few points above that to get
the improved spec heal.)

Then I was going to take staff up quite high too - not leaving much left for
enhance.

Don't flame for that spec, I know it's unusual but it seems like one that
would suit my play style for pve quite well (not sure about pvp). I tend to
play with one, maybe two close RL friends and we don't have a healer on
board. At level 42 my high rejuv was actually sufficient to keep my
friend/friends alive while bashing stuff. I'm not amazing solo, but I could
do crush vulnerable oranges and certain (not many) low reds - I'll leave the
high reds / purples to the staff/enhance guys :>

Thing is, on the friar forums there are people saying that you can get TOA
drops that will cap your enhance buffs even if you do spec like I was
planning on doing. There's apparently even haste buffs that are better than
the ones you get high up in enhance?

Is this true? If it is are any of the TOA items tradeable to people who
don't have the expansion? I guess some of them probably aren't since you
have to level them yourself, but are all the new items like that?

Sorry for the long post, I've got a lot to catch up on.

Thanks again

Hi,

Are you on Mythic or GOA? If it is the former, I can help you. Write me
privately, so I can reply directly.

Thanks for the clarification there.

It's an unpopular spec for some reason, or at least used to be. I got
seriously flamed for it on the
drunken friar last time I dropped in there.

The general attitude was friar who spec for rejuv are cowards who don't want
to fight in the front lines. Our spec heal will never be as good as the
cleric ones, but considering the number of cleric buffbots in the game when
I was last active versus the number of at the keyboard healer clerics, I
thought people would be greatful for some battle healing.

If the attitude has changed of late then maybe it is time to drop back in.

My PC is more than up to the task of ToA, but at the moment purchasing
another game even from ebay isn't an option - I've just went back to uni and
the whole student loan / part time job thing has gotten really messed up
(I've had to live 6 weeks on zero income). In a couple of months I'll be
fine - I get paid in three weeks but every penny of that has to go on bills
I already owe from last month, but while I'm waiting to get sorted I'm
budgeting to the nearest penny 🙁
