I would like to get a Blu Ray player eventually and I'm wondering how the PS4 and Xbox One compare as a Blu Ray player to a similarly priced dedicated Blu Ray Player. I understand that you're paying for more than just a Blu Ray player when you get a PS4 or Xbox One but how do the game consoles compare to a similarly priced Blu Ray Player? I would bet that a Blu Ray player that costs more than a PS4 or Xbox One plays Blu Ray much better but how would a Blu Ray player that costs $300-$450 compare against the game console that plays Blu Ray discs? Thank you.

They wouldn't. There is no quality difference between any of them in terms of playing a Blu-ray disc. It requires very little power to play a disc. What they are really charging for (other than ripping you off) is for the extra features. Like Netflix, Hulu, etc. These features also don't require that much power. That said stand alone players do like to play it cheap and use the bare minimum to function so you'll probably notice side by side they take a few more seconds to actually execute a new task compared to a PS4/Xbox.

Thank you for the reply. I'm not sure if I want to go with 4K Blu Ray right now, but that does make a PS4 or Xbox One sound better. Of course, I know there are also Blu Ray players that are cheaper than a PS4 or Xbox One but I don't know if I want to go that route.
