my pc has the following and seems very slow to respond, I am not gaming but using it for video editing and given that the gpu is supposed to be good for 4k and the memory is quite adequate I am wondering if the cpu is causing some kind of slowdown, bottle neck?

mother board ASRock 970 pro3 R2.0
cpu AMD FX-400
gpu NVIDIA Gforce GTX1060 6GB
memory DDR3 dual channel 24 gBytes

thank you

Lot less than a new mb and more modern cpu I fear, I understand it is important to match the components, would you be so kind to either either advise me on that or point me to a source of that info?

CPU load is mostly 100% consisting of lots of small amounts but the Davinci Resolve software is the biggest at around 90 or more when at its worst.
I am concerned that the gpu and motherboard and cpu don’t match?

What storage options are you using? If you're running off of older hard drives upgrading your boot drive to a Solid State could yield very good results. Also, what kind of CPU cooler are you using? If you're willing to upgrade I would go for the FX 8350 which can be found here. If you're using the stock cooler you may need to invest in something like a hyper 212 evo from coolermaster.

My boot drive and second drive are both SSD.I have the stock cooler, would you be so kind as to explain what difference a different cooler will make?
I never see any temperature for the CPU exceeding 40-50c?

The cooler that was included with the quad-core processor is made to cool a lower TPD. With that said, I thought I remembered that AMD stopped selling stock coolers with their octo-core processors but double checking the link I sent it actually includes one so that would also cut costs a little further.

You might want to download a piece of software such as MSI afterburner that gives you a chart over time of CPU usage and temperature. If you keep an eye on the chart and you notice slowdowns when your CPU is of relatively low usage you might have errors elsewhere in the system.

Regardless, with something like davinci resolve, you'll see major improvements in performance by moving to an 8 core processor.
