I bought a lanbox case because I need to move around to Clients at power plants....I've never built a puter before.

Purpose of said puter is Development in Visual Studio Pro with rather large SQL quieries.

Umm...how does it look? No Games...is my power supply ok?

It looks pretty good, I would probably make a few small changes:

The case is a Thermaltake Lanbox.....the black one with the handle, I already bought it.

Ohhh...raid 0 sweet...I like

I'll check the gpu of a 4830....only video, is a little hdtv and perhaps some real light 3d modeling

Is this micro lan party board ok?

the original gfx card is fine... maybe more than you need

6 gigs is too much RAM , but not as wasteful as 12 .


forget the velociraptor , they are only a fraction faster than wd black series or samsungs latest drives

Its ok, but I would get the Asus board that I linked because Asus has very good build quality boards.

The lanbox you have won't allow for the raid 0 setup only 2 HDD bays. So I guess just stick with your original plan with the Vrap, but honestly I don't think the Vrap is worth it, you don't get that much more speed out of them than you will from your data drive.

Hey, xthekidx.....I could give up the large drive and go external for that....if I did that would your raid 0 setup be the way to go ... with your Asus board.?

The DFI board would be fine too if the Asus board is too much for you, but the Asus is higher quality and has better features than the DFI, asus has always been good to me. I would go with the raid setup if you can make it work.

Asus it is, that combo price is good, 2x 320gb raid is plenty for my intended purpose......faster than the velocitRaptor...huh....this user would have never guessed....I'm going with your suggestion.

Edit: Checking in with a new "Final" build and I got it under $1000 which was my goal.

Ok after doing some research, I'm confident I can set up a raid 0. But as a fall back I emailed my IT guy at the company I work at and he said he would help me if need be.....he was rather amused that I was building a business machine in a lanbox. :lol:

After reading the instructions for my lanbox today, I found out a hd can be installed in the extra 5 1/4" optical drive slot and is configured for doing this.....so I have a place to install a future 3rd large data drive, which is beyond my current budget.

Here's what I came up with after more research and advice given....also my price point of about $1k (per wife today ) .... the operating system will be Vista Business 64, which I can get for free from work....shhh....Hey I'll be using it for work.

Well, as a person who's owned both Ford and GM products, that's not a good way to ask ME (all my Fords died from cooling issues). But yeh, it's kind of like an EVGA vs BFG thing.
