I had a couple of friends turn me on to Star Citizen back when it was on kickstarter. It still isn't released and their website really does not explain how you "buy" the game?

All the cool techie stuff (graphics, story line, single player, multiplayer) aside. So you buy a Package with any number of ships you want? so This is like an android or IOS game where (The game is technically free or say $45 USD to start with a basic ship) and the sky is the limit as to how much cash is burning in your wallet?

So some funny person that has $100,000 invested in the game can wipe out all the single ship players in the beginning?

(I am looking for clarification on how this game actually works......) It almost sounds like a fancy version of Clash of Clans.....$20 here, $100 next week...... $80 tomorrow.... $400 next month.....

All of a sudden it is a million dollar game.

Think/investigate into Eve Online. Your comparison doesn't sound too far of base in that you can buy a $1,000 ship and have it now or play the game a while and eventually get it in game. That said the ships are built and classed differently for a reason. While you may have bought a $1,000 research lab ship, my $250 missile carrier might take you out still. The game is still in the testing phases and you may be able to buy into the testing still. If you have an interest, start out with the basic ship package ($75 i think) and see how it plays out. Keep up to date with the forums to see if it's heading in the direction that interests you. I don't think this is a game where you'll go "oh let me just slap another $500 on this game cause I had a good day today", so I wouldn't compare it to a nickle and dime game like that.

Keep in mind too, the bigger the ship the more people can be on board, so a $100,000 ship like you mentioned may need to be manned by 20 people for it to do much of anything. Or a $1,000 ship with a crew of 6 could board your ship and take it since there is no one to fight back.

The game will have a base price, and ships are available for sale for real world cash, but you can also earn them all in game with in game currency. They're basically selling pre-orders of ships currently is all.

But difference between these ships and ones in other space games are these ships have actual interiors and multiple cockpits/turret seats/console controls so multiple people could be flying one ship.
