Please give me your opinion on this system

Hey do you guys think that the following system is good enough to take to college or do i have to upgrade just yet
Dell Latitude D610
Windows XP Pro SP2
40.00 GB hard drive
1 GB ram at pc2-4200 however im addding another 1 gb
DVD+RW drive
Sigma tel audio
mobile intel 915GM/GMS,910GML Express Chipset Family [Display adapter] (2x)
Broadcom NetXtreme 57xx Gigabit Controller
Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 2200BG

I am a power user, and do run some scientific apps as I am in research.
So what do you guys think? Please give me your opinions.

It's a 2 generation old laptop with a single core Pentium M processor, not a power user's computer by any stretch of the imagination in this time of dual core cpu's.
