i just got r9 280x sapphire vapor-x today , and the card literally screams at any game i play , reaches 75C and fan speed over 80%

this is urgent guys and am getting worried plz respond asap

Processor : i7 3770

RAM : 16 GB

You can set a custom fan curve and run it a bit hotter with less fan speed.
You might have poor case air flow. What kind of case and what is your fan setup?

this is an overclocked HD 7970. i don't know what you were expecting when you bought it. you can set a custom fan curse to make it quiet but then you risk damaging your graphic card.

i have a cooler master cosmos 1000 with no case fans and i don't have this problem with my cards

No, your PSU is fine. Nobody said that it wasn't. You need more case fans to take the load off the ones on the GPU. That way the fans won't have to run so fast to keep the card cool. I would get maybe two more 200mm case fans, that would probably solve the cooling issue.

Looks like your cables are blocking any airflow from that front fan anyways, may need to run some through the back of the case

look again, there's two 12V rails on your psu each giving 28amps!

theres nothing wrong with it. If the system doesnt freeze, shutdown or restart under load it is not the psu.

get more fans in there, if the temps are still high after that reseat the heatsink on the card or rma it. VaporX should be quite good cooler so those temps you are seeing are unusually high...

the thing is the card is always at 99% load when it is at 1070 clock and 1256 vddc , so the card gets relatively hot and the fan keeps goin up with it..

but now when downclock it to 950 mhz and 1000 vddc the gpu load doesn't even exceed the 40% load and temp is average at 55c .. so it becomes absolutely normal on that clock .. this is why i don't understand or get the idea .. if that's a problem in the card itself or i really need a bronze psu atleast

99% usage is normal under load when nothing else is bottlenecking or limiting the operation of the gpu (like too slow cpu or vsync etc...). In fact you want this.

40% load is a weird result from underclocking the card, it should not behave like that. Maybe the volts are too low... increase them a notch or two if you can, or just try every setting between the 1000 and stock but dont go over the stock vdcc...

edit have you tried running with the side panel removed, like in those pics? the temps should drop at least a little...

You could try and find a sweetspot for the clocks/temp/noise/performance if you like, because running underclocked like that isn't actually ideal since you've paid for the factory overclock in the first place.

This is very typical of people who are still new to building higher end machines, never skimp on case fans and cable management once everything is setup. High end graphics cards dump a lot of heat especially with cards that draw over 200w full load so fan noise is part of the package. I'd take fan noise over random crashes any day. A few tweaks you can get that fan down to 60-70% but not much lower as you don't want the power vrm to overheat which on most cards is very common when neglected.

Overall you won't have to spend much and shouldn't take much time either to fix which is good. Cut the clocks on the core slightly and fix the fan at a constant 60% so it will be less noticeable than when it is constantly changing.

you really should get couple more case fans, from those pics it seems there are empty fan mounts available, one in the roof and one at the back at least.

Open air coolers push all the warm air back into the case so the case airflow needs to get rid of it, preferrably as soon as possible...

From those temperature numbers it sounds like theres nothing wrong with the card/cooler itself, the warm air just gets trapped in there so the cooler isn't getting enough fresh air.

ok guys since i've been making lots of tweaks and stuff .. i'm now stable on 1060 mhz , 1181 vddc , 66c and fan speed at 60% .. i don't really tweak the fan because it is made to cool the card so i don't really want to play with that .

but i have a question .. is it not wrong that i decreased the vddc from 1256 to 1181 ? .. because i'm pretty sure that the voltage usage was the problem causing all that heat , and also my psu has 2 rail 12v .. which is not actually good for gamers and its main disadvantage is not sharing anything .. but if i got a single rail with 50A+ .. i think that would fix the heating problem because if u notice .. my card goes relatively hot over 12v .. so maybe there's something unstable in the psu .. yes it is powering it up , but not in a good efficiency *correct me if i'm wrong*

so till now i'm going to stay on that setup mentioned above until i get new fan setup , but .. i need an answer ! is it ok if i leave the vddc like this ? will it burn my psu or card or anything ?
