Please help! advice first build $2000 & questions about future upgrade

Second I play mmorpg's (AION mostly) and most likely thats only type of games I'll be playing, if that matters at all

The questions I have are as follows....This build to much for Aion? I'm thinking I could get the i5 or something even chearper and save some cash. Which leads me to my next question if i were to get a lesser cpu/mobo and upgrade in a few years when newer mmorpgs come out how will the rest of the components perform? From what I've gathered so far the major upgrades are cpu mobo and gpu unless somethin else breaks. So basically could i go with a cheaper build and save several hundread bucks to upgrade cpu/mobo/gpu or whatever is recommended in 3+ years.

And since i dont really know much whats neccessary to spend lots on on like ive seen people say the cheaper gskill ram is fine for 2000 build and then on high end intel thread people have gskill ram thats $30+ compared.

Sorry if these questions are already answered on a sticky. Im just a super noob and dont have to much time to research this stuff. and sorry if my thoughts are jumbled a little unsure how to ask these questions.

also if theres recommendations for different parts im totally open to that. but id like to stick with intel and reliable brands/parts. :]

After just a quick check, massive overkill for the requirement. Go with the $1000 build on my sig.

The i5 2500k is the best gaming CPU you can buy, and it will last half a decade easily. Only upgrade I'd recommend is adding the SSD from the $2000 build, which would take the cost upto around $1160. The Z68 motherboard is also good enough to last a few upgrades. The only upgrades you will need in the next 3 years is probably a GPU upgrade (GTX7xx series probably) and maybe 4GB more RAM. You can even go for the 8GB from the $2000 build straight away for just $25 more.

i don't think anyone "needs" to spend 2000 on a computer anymore, that's so 80's/90's when it was hard to get a good one.
800-1200 pcs are the ideal place for most high end gaming systems, anything more is enthusiast space and unless you game on multiple screens or super high resolution or need to use the pc for professional work, you won't need anything near 2000.
I can't click on zero's link from work, but if his 1K build is a 2500k w/z68 8gb ram & a 560ti or similar/better, i am sure you'd be happy with any game you play
to be honest on the upgrade path unless you have been there, done that (usually every 12 months),,, you probably won't because by the time you get around to it 3 or more years from now, it will seem like a waste to upgrade what you have and want to buy the new stuff all over again.
that being said, you can at least add a second video card to extend the playability of this system.... most of my systems last me quite nicely for 5 or so years and by then I'd rather just go for a full upgrade.

Good advice already posted here. I will reinforce the theory that you can build a great gaming rig for considerably less than $2000. Since you have a healthy budget available, stick to high quality parts, most importantly the PSU and case, as these can last through multiple rebuilds. Z68 is the latest Intel chipset and will last for quite a while, along with an i5-2500k. Go with a high-end GPU now (HD 6970, GTX 570, GTX 580) and when you feel a need for an upgrade, you can get a current high-end GPU (probably two generations from now). Might as well go with 8GB of RAM now...it's cheap and when you feel you need more you will have 16GB Once a memory and GPU upgrade doesn't cut it any more, it will be time for a complete overhaul.

Thanks all for the advice. I was kind of leaning towards a lower build after posting this origionally from looking at the high end builds vs the budget builds. Seems like every chooses a great cpu momo & gpu & cuts costs on other parts.

And I think ill take that advice on doing a new build in say 5 years. Sounds better then relying on older parts that cost me more & may not cut it anymore.

Ah ok I guess I misunderstood others advice. I was thinking higher for upgrades future/new build that would use 2 cards or would I just be better off getting a new one in the future?

Fyi...chances are I won't be getting into any new games mmorpg or other genre for about 3-4 years...depends on when Final Fantasys 3rd MMO comes out. I may be getting into the new star wars mmo if any of this info matters.

In that case, you wont be needing ANY new hardware. Go for the cheaper PSU now and get a new card in around 2 years.
