Please help - Asus P2B-DS won't detect 80GB Diamon

Hi

I have a PIII500 system built around an Asus P2B-DS. I just installed a new Maxtor Diamond Max 80GB HD onto the secondary IDE controller as master (no slave) but the system hangs whilst detecting it on bootup.

I've checked the jumper settings and connections and everything's cool. Could it be a problem with the IDE cable I'm using (came with board about 18 months ago), or is there a size or compatibility problem - might this board
not support this ATA100 drive? Do I perhaps need to specify the size in the system bios or something. I'm out of ideas.

I've got an p2b-d and it doesn't support ata100. ata33 is the highest. But that "shouldn't" stop it from recgonizing it. I would try updating the BIOS. http://www.asus.com.tw/Products/Motherboard/Pentiumpro/P2b-ds/index.html

I have the latest Bios. Do you happen to know if I need a certain specification of cable for the disk to work? Maybe the P2B-DS cable is underspecified for the drive? Is this possible.
