Please Help build my low budget gaming/twitch streaming/multitasking PC

I am a first time PC builder and I would like some help and advice. I want to build a pc to do all of the following at the same time:

- Play games like Total War: Rome 2 and Hearthstone, I may want to play games like evolved, but focused on low cost
- Live stream to twitch
- Record a webcam of myself
- Capture gameplay
- Run two 1080p monitors so I can look at websites and instant messaging on the second while I play games on the first

Keep in mind if you have any suggestions that I am buying at the micro center in tustin/orange county in california. I am too antsy to order all the parts from 5 different web sites. Plus i LOVE micro center's return and satisfaction policy!

Ignore how old they are. As long as it is a Haswell chip, you can compare the specs. the 4590 is .1 GHz faster so you will not notice a difference in gaming. The 4460 is a very good value-oriented gaming CPU.

Wait why are there two CPU coolers?

Okay so first you don't need a CPU cooler at all since you won't be doing any overclocking. You also need a *97 chipset motherboard. And since you wont be overclocking, H97 is most desirable and will be the best option. As for the graphics card, 750 Ti's are way over priced so getting a r9 270 would be the best $/performance ratio.

No, I do not want to overlock. As someone who is new to PC building I have been advised by some friends, who are PC building veterans, to not overlock because it increases risk to components, complexity of the build, and is overall not necessary unless I plan to do extreme gaming or graphics rendering (which I am not doing).

I want to use my hard drive from my laptop, but just realized it may to be compatible. It is a:
Western Digital Bare Drives 1TB WD Blue SATA III 5400 RPM 8 MB Cache Bulk/OEM Notebook Hard Drive
Part #: WD10JPVX

My friends will also be supplying a hard drive or two but have no clue what they will be giving me (beggars can't be choosers right lol).

I forgot to mention in the original thread I think I want to have 2 hard drives hooked up, one with mac OS and one with windows OS.

Also windows 8 the best OS for gaming/multitasking or is windows 7 better?

Smorizio thank you for the build suggestion! I am new to PC building but want to learn, I am curious why you went with a different core and motherboard but kept the rest? Does this configuration optimize the other parts better? Thanks again Smorizio!

I have 2 coolers because I don't know 100% what I am doing haha. I was not sure if the i5 came with a cooler so I added one to be safe. I updated the original thread about my storage situation. Isn't that power supply like 550w? My system is only pulling an estimated 250, won't the 550 fry the components? I read that too big a psu could damage parts.

lol not sure where you would read that but you could put in 1500 watt if you wanted to but it would be a waste 550 watt is usually a safe bet for future upgrades as long as not SLI generally you want your PSU to run at 50% load for best power efficiency and always get quality PSU for 550 watt xfx is usually a safe bet.

It's not possible for a PSU with too much wattage to damage the components. And like the above stated. PSUs are most efficient at 50% load.

As for the hard drives.. I honestly don't reccomend using any old drives. The reason is system is snappy is because of the storage device that OS is on. Using an old drive slows everything down.

For instance, I had a 250gb 5 year old drive I was using for a project and I didn't think it would be that bad. But boy was I wrong. It frustrated me so much I put in a 500gb to shiba drive, when I did that and loaded my os on it, it's snappy as hell now.

Although it won't effect gaming performance, at the very least buy a cheap $30 drive for your windows OS.

Oh and windows 8.1 is better for gaming over windows 7. Not too noticeable now but it will likely be in the future. But get whatever is cheapest because I think Microsoft might be giving windows 10 out to whoever has windows 7/8 so long as they activate it within a year and have compatible hardware.

You have some good points lat make sense. Can I get a small SSD drive for the OS and then a separate drive for the games and such? Will the bottleneck any performance or anything?

Ok thanks! Thats what I will do then! Last question:

- What am I looking for in a pc case/tower to allow multiple hard drives? Internal 3.5" expansion slots or 2.5" slots or am I completely wrong? What other slots should I be looking for and what are they used for?

Generally speaking you want to look for good quality and good airflow, which means Atleast 1 120mm intake fan and 1 120mm exhaust. Never use any fan smaller than 120mm as they are far too noisy.

Another thing to look for is cable management. But cases with good cable management are usually above the $60 range.

The NZXT source 210 is a really good case for people on budgets. Another nice case that is a little more expensive is the Corsair SPEC-01

Don't bother looking for drive cage mounts since all cases come with Atleast a couple. Also, don't worry about 2.5" points since SSDs don't need to be mounted.

Ok I think that is everything. I added the mentioned corsair case for an extra $15 (not a back breaking choice). Is there any other final considerations to think about or keep an eye on? Thank you so much for all your help! 🙂

to the op to replay to your question. intel has two haswell cpu now the older haswell and the newer devil cannon that has newer tim pastes and power reg. the 4590 is a locked cpu cant ovwer clock it. then on a locked cpu yu can ue the h97 mb. the h97 is newest chipset it can run haswell or brodwell cpu whe nthe drop.
