Hi everyone, I have an ATI radeon 9800 pro 128mb and im having serious issues getting the tv out to work. I installed the latest driver from the ATI website. I connected a converter to the s-video output on the card to a composite cable which runs to my tv video input. after fiddling with the configuration of the driver so many times i was unable to get any results. I turn the "tv" on in the driver options but yet no display, the "2nd monitor" in the driver thingy is always but always not active no matter what i do. I was also wondering what do those 2 icons near the main monitor refer to? they are 2 buttons one is a circle and another is 2 squares overlapping. In case anyone is wondering about ntsc or pal, my region is Pal and i made sure the jumper on the card is set to Pal as well. PLEEEASE HELP!!! I NEED TV OUTPUT :(!

the two icons you're talking about are to set the display as primary or secondary (afaik)
As to your problem, I know this might sound stupid, but are you sure this is not a TV problem? starting with cable problem (I don't think, because you see the TV as "on" in the display properties), and continuing to the capability of the TV set to receive S-video or euroscart signal.

Btw, I'm not sure what you mean by composite cable (the regular coaxial antenna cable?). What type of input does your TV support? which one do you have: S-Video input, scart, RGB etc? I suspect a problem related to the cable - input system you are using.

I'm pretty sure its not a tv problem since i've used the tv out just the same way from my older card (asus ti4200) just before i got this one. composite refers to a regular RCA jack like those 3 red, white and yellow ones you have coming out of your playstation console ;). almost every graphic card that comes with tv out comes with a kind of s-video to composite converter cause not all tv sets have an s-video input but almost all of them have a composite input.

Hmmm... dude... have you switched your TV set to video (VCR/Game) mode? It is hard to tell what exactly is wrong in your setup but I have a suspicion that it is something very simple. In similar situations I do this:

Take the whole thing apart and start anew and be careful not to miss anything. Chances are everything will start to work though you may never find out what you missed/did wrong the first time.

I now think i noticed what is wrong, from what it seems like, the driver is the problem here. I was just at a friends house that also has an ATI card with the same drivers and i noticed that near the "TV" on the driver properties he has 2 buttons like the ones i asked about before - for selecting weather the screen will be primary or secondary. well on my driver properties everything is just like his when the tv is selected and all BUT i dont have those 2 buttons for the tv! only for the regular screen, what the hell is this?! :(

Have you selected a two-display mode??? If you have a single display mode selected the option to choose the primary and secondary display will NOT be available...

Huh?

where so i see that option exactly?

I don't have an ATI card and hence I don't have a visual reference to its driver config screens. Check out the Catalyst user manual, dude. Actually, you should have read it before posting on this forum. I am afraid I cannot be of any more use to you. Good luck.......

you know those 2 little square buttons? 2 of them are near the computer display and two of them are on the tv display ( in the properties) - they are there for setting primary and secondary. well unlike the way i saw this working at my friends computer, i DONT have the 2 blue buttons near the computer display so i cannot select it as primary or secondary. but i do have those buttons for the computer display. hope u understand the situation better after this reply. thanks ;)

What catalyst are you using? I am using Cat 4.3 on a Hercules 9800 Pro, and the fabled buttons are where they should be
I am not in front of my computer right now so I don't remember exactly where to set the dual display thingie, but I remember that the Catalyst sets it as default (I think it's in the Display properties -> settings tab.
If the TV appears as always off (and you cannot turn it on), it might be a cable problem, as far as I can tell (it cannot detect a TV attached)

P.S. Have you tried switching ON the TV?
just kidding

Ok, here we go....
Make sure all cables are plugged in, the tv is set approprietaly, and the tv is on.
Go to your display properties on your computer, then click on the displays tab. There you will see larger boxes with smaller boxes in them. They are options for each type of display you can have connected (CRT monitor, flat panel, TV with S-video or composite, and component(RGB) TV connections). On the top of each box, you will see a box with the name of your device, in your case TV. To the left of that box will be a little box that will show red if it's off. You must click on ths button to make this display active; it will turn green when it's on.
Now click ok at the bottom, then ok on the display properties window, and you're golden.
If you do not see this button lit(not able to click), this means that your card is not detecting your TV. I would start with the endput(tv) and work my way back for troubleshooting. For example, checking to make sure the tv is set correctly, try other cables to see if there is a cable problem, try another converter, and then maybe even try your card in your friend's computer that works.

Good luck...

LOL  That's what I meant initially when I told him to take everything apart and redo the whole thing from scratch. Check connections... check cable integrity... I figured all this stuff went without saying...
