Hello all,
I'm about ready to make the switch to SSD's, and I'd like some of your expert opinions on certain drives. I am fairly knowledgable about SSD's, but then again not really. Not as much as a lot of you, so I'm asking for you help!
I'm looking at buying two 120-128 GB drives and putting them in Raid 0. I had been debating between keeping the drives separate to still be able to use TRIM, but the little news update on THG this morning about Intel enabling TRIM in Raid has made my decision easy as I can now have the best of both worlds!
Another important thing is that the drives must remain under $300 a piece. I would like to get 160 GB drives, but that's going to put me over my $300 budget per drive.
Now for the candidates:
OCZ Vertex 3
Intel SSD 510
Mushkin Enhanced Chronos Deluxe
Patriot Wildfire
Crucial M4
Samsung 830
I want the fastest drive I can get while not sacrificing all of the reliability. It is my understanding that the Sandforce controller bug that was causing BSOD's has now been worked out. Was that the only thing making the OCZ drives unreliable? I had read some rumblings a while back about OCZ drives being the fastest but also the most unreliable. Does this still hold true?
Tom's SSD buyers guide for the month is basically recommending the Mushkin drive to me. Anyone have any opinions on this drive?
I really was set on waiting for the Intel SSD 520, but it sounds like it won't be out until Q1 2012 now. My PC is sold, so there's no way I can wait that long to build a new rig.
I will gladly accept and appreciate any and all recommendations, warnings, words of wisdom, etc!
