Here are my specs:

So I was browsing the web and I noticed my PC start to lag very badly.

So I Checked HWMONITOR and my CPU reading was at 99 degrees Celsius. Since I am not Overclocking, I knew this was bad, and I checked task manager and saw that AVAST Anti-Virus was using 100 percent of my CPU.
I Uninstalled avast and now my temps are a 30-35c.

Do you guys know why this happened or if this harmed my CPU at all? (I dont know how long it was at 99c)

Also, I do not want to Overclock right now, how do I make sure I am not overclocking?

The temps are completeing normal unless its under full loaf, then the go up to 99c.

Will intel replace my cpu if it fails?

Hmmm.

AVAST was probably running a full scan and in return used a lot of CPU.

99C is high, but nothing that will hurt your computer. Your computer will shut down before it can damage the CPU.

Your all good.

He did not overclock it, its pretty obvious. If he doesn't know how to check, he wouldn't have the knowledge to overclock it in the BIOS along with changing voltages.

Yes, the temperature is high, but not going to kill it. 35c idling temps are normal. Check for dust in fans, and maybe apply new thermal paste.

This has happened to me as my antivirus was occupying msot of the CPU. Even thought anti-viruses may not seem CPU intensive they are they search through your hard disk and they are active like on standby think of background processes they do also get CPU intensive when they are scanning. It is really not easy to mistakenly overclock. What you can do if your worried change back your settings on the BIOS to default then tweak what you wanted to tweak

Buy some pressurized air cans and spray it on the PSU Fan all the fans and vents really gets the dust out. Apply new thermal paste. I recommend download SpeedFan really big help, you can change fan speeds check most temps, check voltages, CPU usage, and so much more

Hey Thank you, But Is it bad that my CPU (i7-4790k) Can not handle 100% load without getting to 99c? Is that normal?

No thats not really normal, however its nothing something that will harm it. I suggest blowing out the heatsink with compressed air, and perhaps changing thermal paste. Make sure your case in also in a environment where it can breathe fresh and clean air.

Not entirely true, at least not for AMD CPUs
http://www.amd.com/en-us/markets/game/downloads/overdrive

I'm not aware of any such programs for Intel tho since I have never owned one.

As people have said, check that the fan is spinning and check the status of the paste on CPU. Should be just a thin thin layer on CPU. So thin it's almost transparent.

Hi,

people who tells you 99 degree is not bad gives you bad advice. Running the cpu at that temperature is a gamble to toast it.

Your cpu overheats when it's under full load and you have to fix that. (when avast does a scan it uses the full power of your CPU)

First off open your cover and clean up the dust in the fan.
Then run a scan and check your temps.
If it's still running hot, you might want to reapply thermal paste.
If you computer is 3 year or older, most likely the thermal paste has cooked and needs to be changed.

It shouldn't get 99c on full load even on stock coolers you should always stay below 80c under full load. I know this might be a pain wanna get like 55C on full load on this video they are cooling i7 4770k so similar and there getting good temps with this air cooler. Its $80 but you get very nice temps on idel you get 29-32 C

So like he said clean out the dust especially on the PSU Fan and heatsinks and fans. Since they suck air they suck dust and that builds up. 99c can literally unsolder your components if they did not come on the motherboard and you attached them

Thanks for the advice, But this is a brand new PC, Everything is new so there is no dust build up. any advice on that? DO you think Intel will take the CPU back and replace?

Lets see 100 Celsius is 212 Farenheit so your basicily boiling your components slowly. You should change your thermal paste if the temps are constant at 99 Celsius otherwhise it will be toasted and less heat transfer to the heatsink

Where did you buy your PC from it was fully made when bought or did you build it. Chances are if you bought it from third party sellers like Ebay they may have not applied thermal paste well.
