PLEASE HELP! CPU i7 4790k TEMPS

Solution

No OC and yes I have a Stock Cooler on it.

Ok.... is the temperature where you're at very high? Are you sure you installed your CPU Cooler correctly? I get about 55º on my I7 4790 on full load just to put things under perspective.

Thank you so much for your time.
My computer room temp is about 75ºF
I have installed everything correctly and the stock heatsink is working properly.
I have the right BIOS for my motherboard (ASROCK z97 extreme 6)
I don't even know how to Overclock, unless my board is somehow automatically OC.

Let me ask you something if you don't mind. If I just let it be and the i7 4790k misses up or dies, will it harm my other components? Also, Will Intel replace a CPU under the 3 year limited warranty if it messes up?

Sorry, my CPU temps are about 131ºF (which corresponds to 55º C). Your CPU temps are mesured in Celsius and are quite higher than they should, whilst running a non-overclocked I7 4790k at a room temperature of 23ºC or 75ºF using a reference heatsink. This leads me to believe that the CPU Cooler fans are not running properly (you can adjust the fan curve on the BIOS) or the thermal paste somehow isn't enough/isn't allowing good contact and heat transference.

My suggestions are: 1st - Really check if the Cooler is mounted properly (don't be afraid to apply a bit of pressure on the pins).
2nd - Get a new heatsink, like the Cooler Master 212 Evo if it fits your case (Warning: you'll have to get a new tube of thermal paste)
3rd - Contact customer support or take your PC to somewhere where they can actually diagnose the problem (I wouldn't recommend this until everything else is ruled out).

You should also use other utility to mesure your CPUs temperature like MSI Afterburner (just to rule out software reading problems, actually quite common, so that's the very first thing you should do: http://event.msi.com/vga/afterburner/download.htm ).

Try the last one and tell me if it made any difference.

the stock intel cooler is anemic in performance, at best, especiallly for the 4790k. search thru the threads here for the coolers folks recommend.

there are two threads on the intel forums re overheating issues with the i7-4790k & i5-4690K
Troubleshooting Intel® Core™ i7-4790K / i5-4690K overheating

and the 2nd thread - 39 pages, and still growing - you can speed read thru the first 15-8 pages, folks were focused on de-lidding their CPUs - but there are some decent tips after that. A better cooler would be a good start

How best proceed with overheating i7-4790K?

OK so I tried 3 more CPU temp programs and they all read the same.
Im going to go with your advice and get the Cooler Master 212 Evo and see if that helps, I will update you on that.

Do you know if Intel honors their 3 year warranty when it comes to CPUs failing?

If the failure cause doesn't start with "I accidentally..." or "I did..." I think they're obligated to honor it. Albeit don't go and try to purposely break it. The Hyper 212 (plus the Thermal Paste, please don't forget that!) is indeed a nice option, if it fits your case. I'll await a reply :),

Het sorry to keep bothering you, One more question: I just noticed on a stress test that my i7 4790k is going at 4.20ghz instead on 4.0ghz. Does this mean I am overclocking without knowing it?

If you didn't touch any setting it is plain normal. If it goes a bit overboard with the clock, that's just the way it's programmed to. I don't think the Turbo Boost max is exactly 4GHz anyways....

Hi! Thanks for your advice. Yesterday I got my cooler master hyper Evo 212 in and once I installed it My temps are lower.
I ran a silver-bench for 10 minutes and my temps never went above 65c.

I guess from now on I wouldn't suggest the stock Heat-sink for the i7 4790k to anyone. Even if you dont plan to overclock, the i7 4790 appearantly still goes up to 4.3ghz on its ownand that gives you temps in the 80s from just moderate use.

Anyway thanks again.
