Hello, so I just got my dell S2716DG 27" Gaming Monitor and i'm trying to hook it up via hdmi to my laptop to make sure it works but the monitor is stuck in some sort of power saving mode and goes to sleep within seconds of turning on. The buttons on the monitor only give me the options for output devices as well. I've installed all the proper drivers and what not and the monitor is listed in nvidia control panel as well as my device manager app. I don't know what to do the computer says it cant detect another monitor but when I select duplicate or extend display the second monitor it gives me will let me choose its native but still says it cannot detect the monitor. I'm at a loss at what to do. Is there a way to restore the monitor to factory settings or something? the hdmi cord i,m using works I just tested it with my old tv. Also my laptop has an 8gb gtx 980m gpu so it's enough to handle another monitor so i'm not sure what is up. I've been at this for hours trying to trouble shoot. All help is really appreciated!

based on the information on that link, no, i don't know of any other method

does it have other inputs that could be used with the video card, that you have cables to use with?

perhaps dvi or displayport, perhaps vga?

is this the same panel you see?

that is a display port and a hdmi, can you try a displayport to hdmi adapter or perhap a displayport cable or a displayport to vga? it depends on the connectors on your laptop

i never asked you to try that monitor on another pc and the hdmi output on your laptop with a tv to verify that you are enabling correctly the hdmi out in the dive card on the laptop and know that the monitor works or not with another pc
this situation only says tha the laptop has not enabled hdmi output, or the hdmi cable is bad or your monitor hdmi port is not detecting anything or it has two hdmi inputs or a imput and a passtrough, be sure to check all that

perhaps a hard reset of settings on that monitor, there should be amanual explaining how to do it in the dell site

try with a different pc and hdmi cable

if situation persist, the warranty of the monitor should help, or return it as a doa, otherwise, don't know of any other thing you can do

Thanks for the input, I hear this is a problem when some people first get them I just can't seem to find out how to hard reset this monitor. My pc build is almost done so hopefully it works on that but we'll see.

Awesome input guys much appreciated! I really want this monitor to work cause I'm overseas so returning it will take forever but I may have to if I can't get it working. The problem is the only osd it gives me is the video input and even after selecting the correct input it still goes. Into power saving mode. Is there another way to factory reset this thing besides the osd or something?
