I just finished building my first desktop. I installed windows 10, everything went fine for a day. I was playing a game, and suddenly it crashed and I got a BSOD. This continued in an endless loop. Eventually I hit the recovery screen and selected "Reset windows", with the parameter of resetting everything.

It seemed to go through the process of "resetting", but after it was finished it hit the BSOD again.
At this point it restarts in a loop like it did before, except it doesn't show anything related to windows. Just my motherboard's splash screen (which wont let me choose bios or boot order) and then its back to constantly restarting.

I have no idea how to fix this. Here are some of the errors I saw on the BSOD:

1. System loading error
2. K mode exception not handled
3. APC index mismatch

Well, i thought you already tried a fresh install before. And as i had mentioned earlier, the pc is not supposed to post with all ram removed. If you are getting that beep with the ram attached, then it indicates that hardware is fine.
If windows installation doesnt work you can do a bios flash. But I think you need to get the splash screen before even you can attempt that.

So at this point, yes I can get into Bios. I have also checked boot device priority, I tried reinstalling windows via a usb, but it bsods either while loading the setup menu or during the installation.

What's the post beep exactly?

I have not tried to load windows on a different drive, I didn't want to have to buy a new one so I took the ssd out of my laptop, wiped it, and stuck it in the desktop. Installed windows, drivers etc, worked fine for a day and a half.

So no way around it, I have to go buy a test HD?

You can try a different windows if you have. But if the disk is failing then there is no way to know unless you try with another disk. Better go to a professional store and let test. They wont charge for testing but you will get the idea whether to buy a new disk or not.

Damn, well I will have to give that a shot and post the results. Thanks for the help, I appreciate it.

I did not configure the settings BIOS, but I reloaded the default settings at one point after the loop started.

I'm using 64 bit windows 10 pro, haven't updated the bios, unless windows update did it.

I'm using 16gbs of ram, and I tried switching out the sticks one at a time, no difference.

Reset cmos and reseated ram, also alternated ram with each boot. No luck yet.

I had a tech come out, his verdict was that the msi z170a m5 motherboard is defective, I guess it wasn't doing a post beep when the ram came out. I'll update this when I confirm that swapping the MB fixes the issue. I still find it hard to believe that it has nothing to do with the SSD or windows.

It cannot do a post beep without the ram. Motherboard can be an issue, but it did work for a day initially you said. And usually a defective motherboard wont give a post beep even with ram.
Hmm...not sure, whats cooking there.
Did he try to install with another disk???

He didn't because I didn't install a disk drive, installed windows off a USB.
It's worth noting that before he got there I would turn on the computer and the monitor would turn on and show the msi splash screen, followed by a windows loading reticle, followed by a BSOD. After he left, the monitor no longer turns on when the computer turns on, so I don't know what's up there or if he did something that changed that. HDMI is hooked up and everything.

- EDIT: to clarify, in order to post, would the beeps come from the monitor (which has speakers) or the MB itself?

Idk what else to do at this point but pack up the MB and send it back.

The post beep is supposed to blare from the motherboard or your speaker if its attached. Not the monitor. It should be a single beep confirming hardware ok. Did you get that beep when you got the splash screen??? Are you getting that beep now???
Its worth trying a bios update at this time if you want.

I do get a click sound after I press the power button, not sure it's a beep lol. Tech guy that looked at it also said it wasn't posting with the ram removed, told me it was the mobo but who knows.

How would I even update the bios?

I figure I'll give it one last shot before I send the mobo back. I just rewiped the SSD in case the issue is a corrupted windows, and I'm about to do a fresh usb install of windows. If it keeps doing this then I figure it's either the mobo, cpu, or psu.
