Specs : i5 6600 3.50 - Evga g3 750 watt - 8 gb ram 2133 mhz - 1440p monitor

i bought a gtx 1070 Ti and tested it on fortnite for example : at 1080p low settings i get 100-130 FPS with 30-40 GPU usage and 70-80 CPU Usage

At 1440p i get 130-150 FPS low settings With 50-60 GPU usage and 70-80 CPU Usage

The Shocking results My old gtx 960 i can get 120 Fps on 1440p low settings and 130-140 Fps on 1080p Both with 99% GPU Usage and 60-80 CPU usage

Notice : I made a test with 720p and really low resolution scale and my CPU Went to 90% Usage and the GPU is low like 30-40 for both cards and i get 150-200 FPS

1-What is the problem with this ?? did i just wasted 500$ ??
2-If i upgraded my CPU to something like i7 6700 or i7 7700 this will solve the problem with gtx 1070Ti ??

What should i do in my case ? Upgrade CPU or Replace the gtx 1070Ti ??
How people getting +200 Fps Stable with same specs on youtube ?

Solution
Sounds like your CPU is the issue. What a better graphics card allows for is higher settings while still running the same frame rate. If the aim is frame rate, regardless of the graphics settings, then you need a fast CPU, so upgrading to an i7 would be the best option.

I do like to play competitive games on low settings and my goal is to get stable +160 Frames , Do you suggest to get a gtx 1060 with i7 6700 or even a i7 7700 , By this i will get stable +160 FPS on low settings 1440p

Thanks for your fast reply

If you're going to upgrade, the 7700 makes more sense than the 6700, but you'll need to make sure your motherboard has a recent BIOS version to run the later generation CPU.

If getting the CPU upgrade means returning the 1070ti for a 1060, I would still do it given what you say your old 960 could do. However, for 1440p gaming I would usually say a 1070ti is far better than a 1060.....it all depends if you're happy with low settings, but you say you are.

My motherboard is Asus h170-Pro , Can it run it , it's LGA 1151 , Please search on my motherboard and tell me if it can run i7 7700

Thanks in advance

Yes, your motherboard will be able to run it as the 6th and 7th gen Intel used the same 1151 socket. However the earlier 6th gen (which you have) need the later BIOS to run 7th gen, so depending on when you got your board (before are after the 7th gen was released), it may or may not already have a compatible BIOS. The best thing to do is update it to the latest version BEFORE taking the old CPU out, just to be safe.
