Please Help! HTPC

This is really urgent, theres a big sale at the local store! If I have a ATI 3650 with HDMI out from DVI-I can i plug this into a receiver to get the audio stream to play on the speakers? I need help please. 🙁

If the card is capable of doing it, it will had come with an spdif cable that connects to the spdif audio port on your motherboard.
That said you must have a motherboard with spdif.
If it didn't come with the cable then it probably doesn't support it.

The HIS Digital AGP version has an onboard soundchip that outputs 5.1 channel sound. You don't need a SPDIF connector as I am told from HIS support. But the real question is can i plug it in to my Yamaha receiver and get 5.1 channel audio and 1080p?

If you find the video card's audio solution does a great job then who am I to tell you to get a "better" one.

I should add that for your audio to be output correctly through the HDMI cable you need:
1. motherboard audio disabled in BIOS
2. drivers for the HIS 5.1 Audio installed
3. HIS Audio selected as DEFAULT Audio

I noticed the NVidia GTX 275 has a S/PDIF input to allow audio from a sound card which it then passes out via the HDMI dongle. This is basically what you have but it allows any audio solution to be used.

Anyway, I'm sure readers would like an update if you get the Receiver.

You've been such a wonderful help, I can't thank you enough! I have the receiver but I am in the process of getting those Paradigm speakers. Hehe that Auzentech card is sooo nice, but I doubt i'll be able to afford it lol. Plus i need a PCI card. Thanks! Also do you know how to get the drivers for the card's audio?
