Hi there,

So I got a new gpu today, a RX 580 8gb, and my old one is a GTX 760.

I installed it without trouble, but when I put the PC on the screen is just black.

Though I can hear windows starting up on the speakers. My problem is that my old card used a vga cable converter that doesn't fit on the new input. So I tried putting using an hdmi cable straight from the monitor's into the card but it's still just a black screen.

I went out and even bought a converter "dvi-d to hmdi" to fit on the bigger input, but to no avail - it looks this https://goo.gl/images/jHwiBE

I am a noob and have no idea what to do now with my screen that doesn't work :(

For example, see this photo:

Those big 2 inputs on top of each other: my new card only has the top one, and my old card only used the bottom one.

Old card used a converter from vga to that bottom one.

I tried uninstalling all gpu drivers with DDU, and reinstalled the card, but still didn't work. PC starts up fine, can hear windows startup sound, but no screen.

Getting a bit confused going back and forth on the pictures, though I think I know what the issue is.

You mention that the RX 580 only has the top DVI port in the second picture. This particular DVI port is a DVI-D port which only carries a digital signal. The bottom port which you have on your old graphics card is a DVI-I port which carries digital and analogue signal.

The question, at least with my understanding, is what ports are on your monitor? This is where I'm getting confused with the DVI-D to HDMI adapter you mention earlier.

Sorry for the confusion, and thanks for trying to help!! I finally came to the realisation that the HDMI port on my monitor is broken. So I had to get a converter 😊
