Super frustrated but also super grateful for any help that can be offered!
I am fixing a couple laptops for a friend, I have done builds and repairs for many years but when he asked me to diagnose a connection issue I was hesitant because networking stuff can be very frustrating. This one is a real head scratcher. He gave me two Lenovo G50-45 laptops, both with almost identical hardware. The machine will connect to wi-fi and show a constant connection but the connection itself is very unstable, using a program like "net uptime monitor" the connection will fail for anywhere from one second to 10 seconds totally sporadically; sometimes being fine for 10 minutes and sometimes failing 5 times in a minute. It will also periodically experience longer than normal ping times even though the router is 5 feet away. The network adapter is an atheros ar956x
This is what I have tried already,
-Hooking it to a wired connection (no errors or drops)
-Disabling all other network adapters and installing a usb network adapter (still gets errors)
-Turning off the ability for the network adapter to control power(errors)
-Running it on a fresh install of windows 10 with just basic drivers(errors)
Both machines behave exactly the same way. It seems to suggest that the problem is either with some other piece of conflicting hardware or a windows software component that is causing the error.
I have searched for hours for answers and nothing helps!
Anything anyone can offer would be amazing.
