I had a guy build a streaming PC for me about 9mo ago. I had no experience with the 8th gen systems & didn’t have time to learn. It has -
I7 6700 CPU 4.00 GHZ
Asus Z170 Deluxe Mb
16G Ram
Corsair water cooler

- Approximately 3 days ago my pc started overheating and shutting off. My 1st reaction was- Oh no, what did I do!” My wife & I are vloggers, so im constantly researching what’s new, trying things out & I’m in Windows insider program so it’s not-unlikely that a bug slipped past my internet security

So, I ran Total Antivirus, MS Maliscous Malware scan, I updated my Bios, I reinstalled Win 10..
all fans Wk ...
My Corsair H 115? water doesn’t Get-hot. & the cpu will sometimes heat past 100 Deg shortly after initial startup.. Too quicky..
Can someone please tell me what you think the issue & how to resolve? Ok, the guy who I paid to build this pc has disappeared & didn’t send me receipts from the build so if it is the motherboard or Watercooler, how can I handle warranty w/outa receipt?
Any suggestions? Thanks!

Solution
I figured it out! Everything was due to a Windows update, I ended up reinstalling Win 10. The 1st place I should have looked! Thanks everyone for the help!
when i see Corsair water cooler or any other AIO coolers 99% of the time its the cooler is dead as you have not changed any thing and not remounted the cooler and all
so if you have stock cooler use that and see that will help for the cooling of CPU till then RMA the cooler

Kinda hard to RMA without proof of purchase 😉

ohh i have not read that he dont have any reciepts......

Obtain the model and build date of water cooler you have. If the guy installed a relatively new one, the build date will be around a year or so, which adds in the parts distribution chain delays, etc. from the time it was built to being stocked. Also, manufacturers keep a private log of problem parts, and they know which ones are more prone to failure. It doesn't hurt to contact the manufacturer and explain your problem. Just be straight up with them and nice. Now's a good time, as they might be in the mood to be gracious.

Thanks for replying! Unfortunately, I don’t have a receipt. Contacted them today & they couldn’t help me. So, I purchased a new watercolor Cooler Master, Master Liquid lite 240 - the only thing I could find. Installed it and my pc is doing the same thing! I boot it up, it will open & within a few seconds it shuts down. I’m at a loss! What do you suggest? Thanks again!

uhh, what if you just use an Air cooler?
Are you sure you hooked up the new water cooler correctly?
You'd want to feel the tubes to see if one is hot or cold (or both hot or cold which is bad)
maybe go into the BIOS (mash delete key after restart/power on) and see what it says there about temps.

Thanks for the reply! Yes, I remounted the new cooler to cpu after cleaning everything thoroughly with alcohol & lenses cleaner rag, put pea size dot of Thermo paste & tighteneddown strong. In bios temp is normal

So, if temp is fine in bios, what should I do to reset - reinstall my pc’s “thermostat” in bios? That’s the only place I can go, bios. Otherwise it shuts down. Btw I know it’s not a thermostat, don’t know terminology. I have set pc to default settings & still shuts down.
