Please help me choose a graphic card..

hey I've been looking to buy a new computer, but I cant even decide upon the graphic card.... i have a tendency for the geforce series, but lately i've been hearing intel is ions away from amds technology... besides that i couldnt figure out which one i should go for, i mean you got 9800gt 9800gtx 9800gtx+ , but isnt oc is bad for the card? and over at the amd, got that 4850 is even better than the 4870 ? so what should i choose over all, i dont really consider the price as a factor when it comes to the graphics.

most card today can handle OC better. its the way of gaining more performance without paying more. some card even have factory OCed but for it will cost more than standard one

about 4850 is better than 4870 i'm not sure.where did you heard that?

if you really have the money you can go with GTX285 (single gpu) / GTX295 (dual gpu) or HD4890 / HD4870 X2

anyway Ati 5000 series will roll out soon. maybe you can wait a bit to see this new-gen card offering

Not sure where you heard that the 4850 is better than the 4870...but that's not true. As people might be starting to figure out by now, the 4870 is my favorite card out right now. It's performance is very close to the 4890/gtx285, which are much more expensive.

basically 4890 is tweaked version of 4870 and it can handle OC better. but when it comes to price vs performance its 4870 win. you can always OC if you want extra performance. so way pay more if you can get similar performance by OCing the card yourself

but 4870 is truly amazing already. unless you play at very high resolution and with everything max out you maybe not need to OC the card at all

Don't forget the impending release of DX11 cards. Price points for the 5850 will be a bit high initially, but if you hold out for nvidia's DX11 cards to be released, then ATI prices should become more affordable.

Thanks for your help, i havent ment i have no budget, its just that the difference between most cards is 30$ this way or 50$ to the other, so it doesnt really matter.
I haveing even considered into account the gtx series, for I'm not familiar with it at all.
And thats why i wanted o stick with the 9 series by nvidia , but after hearing that radeon is much better and for approximately the same prices, I came here for a consultation.
Are there any comparisons between these following gpu's ?
9800gt 1g , 9800gtx+ 512mb , 4850 , 4870 , 4890 , gtx 285 , gtx 295 ?

do you think it would be better to wait for the new series to come? cause by then the price would go down, on the other hand by than newer stuff such as games, would come out to the market and these old components wouldnt carry them as well , i mean if im about to wait antil the new is old , why not just buy a pentium 4 ? lol

if you want to compare then you can look at the benchmark such as this:

the 9000 series is using much more older architecture, the G92 chip. all the 200 series except GTS 250 (a renamed 9800GTX+) using the latest chip from Nvidia, the G200a/b.

as for your last question i think its better to wait. if you're interested with the 5000 series then get it if the price is something you can afford. if not you can get the 4000 series with cheaper price. the 200 series might drop in price as well in order to compete with ati 4000 series though i'm not sure this will happen.

btw, is there a great meaning for the maker of the card? i mean i wanted to buy asus but i noticed zotac or gigabyte are way cheaper...

in term of performance it should be the same though each maker have their own way in customizing the card over the reference board from ati and nvidia. other things is customer support service. as i can see many people prefer to get card made by XFX because they provide good supports and warranties for their product (of course they made good quality board too )
