Hi all,

My homebuilt pc has been producing a hard to diagnose issue in the last few months, and I was wondering if you guys could help diagnose it and also give me advice on useful software to have running on my computer when trying to find the root cause of a crash.

My PC:

AMD Radeon HD 6800

Kingston SSD
Western Digital HDD

Athlon X4 860K Quad Core CPU

Gigabyte motherboard

Corsair RAM

The Issue:

Screen freezes, mouse still moves, occasionally can still hear game sounds. Will then do the same thing similar after reboot for a random amount of reboots, between 3 and 7 times. Then goes away for a few weeks, then back it comes.

Considerations:

My girlfriend obliterated a USB wifi dongle sticking out of the computer with her butt around when the problems started. Destroyed a USB slot.

Recently been having slowdowns and crashes that seem harddrive related due to the fact on reboot my SSD doesn't boot and instead boots a partition on my HDD.

I reinstalled windows on the SSD and it is now running painfully slowly.

Also, as I mentioned, if any of you have any suggestions for decent programs to leave running to monitor and give info about crashes, please do suggest them. I'd love to make the process fo fixing these a bit less like pulling teeth.

Thanks so much for reading!

Thomas

HW Monitor reported high 90C temps on my graphics card a few times.

Solution
Hi,

install hard drive sentinel or install it on working computer and install the ssd to check the health of drive
.

Your gpu is a tad hot but ok under full load. I would clean up dust in GPU /CPU fans to have better cooling
