First ever build https://pcpartpicker.com/user/smsmith2010/saved/JZhb8d and I wouldn't say its been smooth sailing, but I've been able to figure out my issues a long the way by reading the manuals and following instructions carefully. But now that my hardware is assembled, I'm being stumped by how to get my dang USB drive to boot up with Windows 10. It shows up on my bootable options, but I am unable to actually boot to it. The USB is formatted to exFAT i believe, and I only have a macbook to use elsewhere, IE cannot download rufus. Please help :(

Have you tried this?

How to create a Windows 10 installer USB drive from a Mac

Not a MAC guy so I don't know if this works.

Yes... I have tried two different methods; the first using the apple supported create a boot drive that you mentioned; this gets me a black screen with a blinking white line in the top left hand corner. And I also tried formatting it in terminal, but that doesn't attempt to boot at all

I found this where it won't run on catelina - https://github.com/unetbootin/unetbootin/issues/223

this shows how to create ISO using bootcamp - https://www.windowscentral.com/how-create-windows-10-installer-usb-drive-mac

Have you tried to use the boot override menu?
Try this
put USB in a slot and go into bios
In bios, boot order, put your SSD you want windows on in top place
In the save & exit screen of bios, under the boot override menu, choose the USB
See page 44 of your manual - https://download.gigabyte.us/FileList/Manual/mb_manual_z390-aorus-ultra_1001_181120_e.pdf

Boot Override
Allows you to select a device to boot immediately. Press <Enter> on the device you select and select Yes
to confirm. Your system will restart automatically and boot from that device.

If it has win 10 on it, the PC will restart and use the USB one time, long enough to get win 10 onto PC.

I have tried this, it recognized but didnt load. I reinstalled windows onto my usb this time using boot assistant instead of terminal and I got a black screen with a flashing underscore in the top left corner. :(
