Hello,
I'm building a new PC and am having a very hard time choosing between the Nvidia's GTX 760 and AMD's R9 290 gfx cards. I've done a ton of research and browsed countless forums but am still having a tough time making the final choice. Hopefully someone can finalize my thoughts for me. I know the 290 outperforms, but I'm worried about overheating and noise as I have no interest in buying an add on cooling system. I don't have a super picky eye for finer graphic details in the first place, only that this rig will compete with new gen consoles in terms of a consistent and solid fps at 1080p. I only really want to spend between $600-$800 and here's what I've compiled so far:
Cpu: Intel Core i5 4690k 3.5 ghz ~$210
Mobo: Asus H81M-PLUS / Socket LGA1150 / Intel H81 Chipset MicroATX ~$70
Ram: ADATA XPG / DDR3 1600mhz / 2x 4GB sticks ~$75
Psu: Corsair CX 750W ~$60
SSD: ADATA Premier Pro SP600 128GB ~$60
Case: Cougar Solution Black Steel ~$25
GPU?:
Asus Geforce GTX 760 / 2GB GDDR5 ~$190
or
MSI Radeon R9 290 ~$280
(rebates included in pricing)
I guess I'm wondering if it's really worth the extra $100 or so for the R9 290, or will I be satisfied with the 760. I hear poor things about AMD card longevity but then again I've never used an AMD card before. I just want my system to last as long as possible, because I don't like to upgrade my parts until they break. Not worried about keeping up with the latest and greatest.
I play a huge variety of games from indies to AAA and just want no hiccups with new gen visuals.
Thanks in advance
