hey!
ok, im super panicked...and dont know what to do except crying...i seek help...desperately

recently i cut-pasted all of my data and pics on my external lenovo external hard drive...
the HD is 2TB..my data there is like 1.5TB..kindly note the data has some very important family pictures and some very important backup projects..

so just today.. i connected my HD to my laptop to get some setup and stuff from it (laptop was 100% clean...cut-pasted) like skype setup and other initial stuff..
i scanned the disk for viruses..u know...just to be careful...the scan was complete and everything was fine...
BUT later...a dialog box prompt and said to scan and repair the drive...i was like "k...lemme scan...dont want to be risky on my drive"
the scan said there were some ERRORS in the drive...it said it may lead to future LOSS of data and other scary stuff...i pressed the REPAIR button,,,when it was completed..my drive had its same label but was NTFS and unaccessible...

i plugged it in 2 of my laptops...same thing... i know formatting would make the drive ok again,..BUT what about my data?

pls help me....

Hello... Your backup methods were correct... BUT... formatting a drive after DATA was put on it... will remove the file locations/name/index to them... B o ...the DATA is still on it and some can be recovered IF you just did a 'quick" or low level format.

I suggest not using any other/more WIN/3rd party repair/recovery app on it at this time... and installing the Win or DOS version of TESTDISK to search the Drive and pulling all those files/items you need off of it to another location/Drive. It will take a while but you should get most of it back if you haven't been running too much on it since this happen. B /

Its very good and free but written/displays like old style DOS... there are multi wiki links for help and DL information.

At this point, you would probably be best off finding a data recovery specialist in your area, and giving them the drive. There are ways to clear this up, but the easiest method involves formatting the drive, in which case you may lose your data forever.

There are ways to get data back, and a data recovery shop will know the best way to go about saving your data.

Hello... a Low level format or "empty the Recycle bin" will just have the file location gone from the table or renamed with some code/character... directory structure will be intact and will be all there for the picking with Testdisk... if your familiar with the original directory structure, it will make sense to you to find them... I suggest just doing small groups/folders/files of them first and check your results out with what was recovered... some renaming of them might be needed too... that's why you should just do them in small groups. i see,,,most of you recommend use of some soft or 3rd party software... i shall see..
BUT i will not format the drive...also the idea of data recovery by giveing it to an expect seems nice and good..i am interested in this option too but dont want to haste upon it..

also i found something interesting

when i directly goto properties by right clinking the result this pops up with these details http://imgur.com/a/zwiXR

which is showing my drive is a joke and cannot be read BUT

by system management when i goto properties this appears http://imgur.com/a/C8EEG
which shows my data is still there!
the size is true too... my stuff IS still there 😀

any ideas ?

Hello... Windows Does have 'Security" ...and moving/using a portable device between OS's will need extra steps to "Use it" ...Typically the steps are not a 'format or Fix command" ...you have to Caution your steps with OS responses to "new" drives and suggestions... There are a many that Don't get a 2nd chance with their Personal DATA. B D
