Please help me! My RX 460 is performing really bad in every single game! (worse than my old GTX 650)

Hi! Guys i have some problems with my new graphics card. It literally underpefrorms in very game i try! So here are my specs:

GPU - Sapphire RX460 2GB (I think its overclocked cuz it has an overclock sticker on the package)

CPU - Intel Core i3 3240 3,4Ghz

RAM - 8GB

WIndows 10 64bit

So i bought the graphics card few days ago. Before it i had an Nvidia GTX 650 MSI 1gb edition inside my build. I tried out some games and they all seem to work really strangely on this GPU. First i tried Far Cry Primal which worked OK on High settings averaging somewhere around 40fps in 1080p. Then i downloaded AC Unity and then the card just flopped. I booted up the game and it looked like it was going to work good (spoiler alert it didn't). The game barely managed to get over 30fps in 720p and everything on the lowest setting (I know this game is buggy and unoptimized but i saw people on YT with the RX 460 that managed to play it on better quality settings and resolution.)

After ACU i downloaded the newest DOOM game. Booted it up thinking that its going to work at least on medium and boy i was surprised! The game cant even achieve 30fps on the lowest possible settings (even the old GTX 650 managed to do that believe it or not!) In some areas the game worked even in 60fps but when the fighting started the game started to stutter allot. I thought to myself, maybe i should try running it with Vulkan, but the game wont even start with that API it crashes instantly.

Finally the last game i tried (right before i came here for help) was GTA 5 and it performed really, really strangely! So on the recommended (high) settings the game runs in 35-40fps rarely dropping to solid 30 but here's the catch! It lags! Yeah i don't know why but the game looks like it lags even on this high framerates! It isn't smooth at all!

By the way if i enable motion blur the game gets a ghosting effect similar to the fat PS3 version. Also i have the latest AMD drivers for my card. The day i got the card and swapped it with my GTX 650 i didn't uninstall the GeForce drivers (literally i didn't touch any Nvidia bloatware). So my friend suggest that that may be the problem and so i uninstalled every Nvdia thing i found in the control panel, but the problem persists.

Please if someone can help with this it would really mean allot! I think that my CPU is bottlenecking the GPU but im not sure. If it is can you recommend a cheap CPU replacement for a 1155 socket? (I know that 1155 sockets are outdated but i currently cant afford a new motherboard and CPU).

ps: I didnt clean install the AMD drivers after uninstalling the Nvidia things.

Solution
In youtube they use the top end i7 CPUs, while yours is a lowly i3 3240 (like my FX 4350).
Its a CPU bottleneck where the CPU cant supply frames fast enough, ie the GPU is too fast.

To check CPU bottleneck: Lower the screen resolution to as low as possible. If FPS is still low/unchanged its your CPU. If its like 120 FPS then its your GPU underperforming.

My CPU which was (yea was now its dead) OCed to 5.0 GHz @1.63V only scored 45-55 FPS on GTA V, upgrading from R7 370 to RX 480 made no difference. That is a CPU bottleneck. Note that you can increase the quality yet FPS doesnt drop.

Solution:
<Only if your board is Z77>
Overclock your CPU if possible (its locked, use the FSB). If FSB is also locked then there is not much you can do...

Can you please explain to me step by step what should i do? Sorry but im new in the PC space i was a console gamer before.

Hey so i installed the drivers (clean and unisntall all nvidia thingies) and the performance kinda emproved but only in ACU. Doom still wont run Vulkan API and it still lags. ACU lags to but at least it can achieve 30fps on low in 1080p now. Still not nearly similar performance like i saw on YT. 🙁 Have any other suggestions?

Buy an i7 3770K (best CPU you can get, more stock clocks even if board dont allow OC) if you are willing to spend the money OR i7 3770/i5 3670K is good enough (lower stock clocks)

Solution

Hey thanks for your reply! I just wanted to ask do you think i7 3770k or i5 3670 will be future proof enough? Thanks!

For future proofing you want 6 threads or more, that would suggest an i7, IMO, i7 3770 is good enough, but if you want the best CPU that is supported on your board, i7 3770K is better, even at stock 3770K has slightly higher clocks.

http://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Core-i7-3770K-vs-Intel-Core-i7-3770/1317vs1979
At stock the i7 3770K is 5-10% faster than the i7 3770, when OCed this is 15-20%. You decide the price difference.
i7 3770: 3.4-3.9
i7 3770K: 3.5-3.9, cannot OC without Z board

IMO get the i7 3770

You keep saying future proof. To be blunt you didn't get a GPU that's in the realm of "future proof." If you're looking to "future proof" get a new MB and CPU most likely the new 7700k. If you are looking to match performance for your GPU and for cheap go with the 3770.

Im not one of those who want everything on max graphics ^^ RX 460 is enough for me it plays everything i want plus i have a PS4 so im covered in terms of gaming. Thanks for the advice i will probably buy the i7 then because i dont have enough for a new motherboard and processor atm. As you probably know, YouTube is currently in ad crisis and since it is my main way of making money its gonna be hard saving enough for both.
