Hey Tomshardware!
I've been looking at a new laptop for quite some time now, and after spending weeks trying to figure out which one to buy, I've finally narrowed it down a bit. I would really appreciate some input and advice on which one to buy.
What I need it for:
I mainly need the laptop for studying, as I have a really great desktop. I will be studying on it pretty much every day for several hours. In the beginning I had a macbook in mind, but I realized that I could get a decent gaming laptop for nearly the same price, which made me think of this as an option, as I would then have a computer to play on when I'm at my parents place, at a LAN, or anywhere else I would be needing it. It would therefore be a big plus if it's a gaming laptop, however not a necessity. Having a great laptop to play on would also be nice since I'm a professional gamer currently. I would mainly be playing the games WoW, League of Legends, CS and Overwatch when it has been released.
These are the laptops I've been looking at, and the prices on them. Please disregard the fact that they may come across expensive, as I'm from Denmark and electronics here are fairly expensive in general.
The first laptops specs can be modified, but the basemodel is this:
MM-Vision laptop 15"6 inch fullHD IPS LED AntiGlare display
Intel Core I7-6700HQ 4x2,60GHz (Turbo 3.50GHz)
Kingston 8GB DDR4-2133 RAM
Samsung 850 EVO 500GB SSD Solid State Disk
Nvidia GeForce GTX970m 6GB GDDR5
Intel 8260 DualBand 867Mbps wireless AC netcard
SOUND BLASTER X-FI MB5 High Definition sound
This model is 1685 euro.
The same model with 16GB ram instead, is 1765 euro.
The same model with 16GB ram instead and Nvidia G-Sync integrated is 1845 euro.
The same model with Nvidia GeForce GTX980m 8GB GDDR5 is 2019 euro.
The same model with Nvidia GeForce GTX980m 8GB GDDR5 and 16GB ram is 2099 euro.
The same model with Nvidia GeForce GTX980m 8GB GDDR5 and 16GB ram and Nvidia G-Sync integrated is 2178 euro.
When taking into account I wouldn't be playing on this laptop more than perhaps one weekend each month, which spec would be the best for me to buy, and give me the most for the price? Would 980M be overkill? I would like to hear peoples opinion on which spec for the price would be my best choice.
As a secondary choice, as I said, I could buy a macbook. These are the prices for the different macbooks in Denmark:
Macbook Pro 13 Retina 128GB: 1416 Euro
Macbook Pro 13 Retina 256GB: 1629 Euro
Macbook Pro 13 Retina 512GB(I'm sure this wouldn't be needed): 1942 Euro
Macbook Pro 15 Retina 256GB: 2146 Euro
Macbook Pro 15 Retina 512GB: This one would be too expensive for my budget
Macbook Air 11 128GB: 977 Euro
Macbook Air 11 256GB: 1190 Euro
Macbook Air 13 128GB: 1102 Euro
Macbook Air 13 256GB: 1315 Euro
So my question is:
1) What spec for the MMvision custom laptop would you advice me to buy, and why? (Think money for product, what is needed, what isn't overkill etc.)
2) Would a Macbook be smarter for me to buy, since I wouldn't be gaming on it that much anyway?
3) It's connecting to 1), but is G-Sync worth it? Is 16GB ram worth it?
I really hope anyone read my wall of text, I just wanted to write as much info as possible, so I could get the best possible advice! Thanks in advance everyone
