I'm a bit confused. I'm trying to assemble a computer (intended mostly for gaming) but which can fit into the smaller case as possible, I will need to take the case into a baggage very soon and travel another country.

Things I've already bought:

cpu: I5 4440
Motherboard: Gigabyte H81M-DS2
http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4665#sp

I have my eyes into this case

JONSBO UMX1

http://www.cooltek.de/en/jonsbo/umx-series/117/umx1-plus

and his bigger brother

JONSBO UMX3

http://www.cooltek.de/en/jonsbo/umx-series/157/umx3-window?c=268

I would much rather get first one, it would means less space on my luggage. My motherboad sepcs says its Micro-ATX, the UMX1 case says its for Mini ITX, however I think my motherboard sizes are similar to a Mini ITX except for a little bit longer in the bottom. Im not too experencied in computer, would you help me to realize if I can in fact use the UMX1. and avoid a bigger size of UMX3.

ONE MORE THING: The GPU im getting is the EVGA FTW ACX3 GTX 1070, the length stated by internet is 16.7 centimeters, specs of UMX1 is 17 cm for GPU as max, seemingly it should fit, isnt?

This is a video in utube of the UMX3

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ocpFmZ_L8pg

I think it has too much unused space

Solution

If you want to switch to itx , Then These are the three best choices :

1- ASUS ROG Maximus VIII Impact , The best nothing can come near it. but instead of M2 it uses U2 , so if you want fast NVME SSD , get the Intel 750 2.5 inch U2 version

https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/MAXIMUS-VIII-IMPACT/

2-Gigabyte GA-Z170N-Gaming 5

http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=5901#ov

2- ASUS Z170I Pro Gaming

I should have got another board I know, but this one has everything I need, I wanted to build something small.

Are you guys sure it wont fit? My board is identical to a mini ITX in all but a little extra longer on the bottom, comparing pictures it seeingly could fit.

Thanks, nevermind, I think I have to take the UMX3 for this instance. I think I'm overreacting with the size, the important thing is that the case could easily fit into my luggage (well padded). Do you think UMX3 would fit in a luggage hard case?

May I know why do you consider H97 better choice than H81, considering my cpu is not Oceable, H97 doesn't offer me any improvement in gaming as I would want.

On the other hand, I could have gotten an unlocked CPU but since I'm putting this system on a very small case, I think any OC intention would be a madness, I ended up buying the UMX3 and I'm pretty sure, the case terrible at airflow.

My experience tell me that GPU is the most important part in gaming, and it's also the more volatil, I have friends with old 4930K which are still rocking with more modern GPUs.

H81 motherboards are lowest priced , They use cheapest components on them , you get lower sound chips , less quality LAN , fewer USb3 , no Raid options , no extra x8 or x4 PCIe slots jusy x1 pcie slot .. etc

Motherboards makers dont care to put good components on low end chipset motherboard because their aim is lowest price .

Maybe, but also it's risky to say companies like Gigabyte or Asus with 3 warranty years and ultra-durable capacitors gonna put cheap anything in their products, IDK. Obviously it's always better to get a Gigabyte sniper with 5 pci 3.0 express and capability of 128 Gb ram, this is all for bragging rights, I have had the 4930K + 2 GTX 780 Classified, in the end Ive just realized that Ive spent too much money on something that could be easily reached for less. I also confirmed that Pc, specially GPUs get outdated too fast. So, now that in a budget I'm being more picky.

About the rest of the features that you kindly mentioned, I'm not needing anything of those, I would never put a serious Gaming PC in such of small form factor as I'm doing.

My only serious concern now is the posibility of my CPU bottlenecking some how the GPU.

1-well , your motherboard has only 2 DIMM slots ant not 4 , meaning , if you want to add ram you will need to replace the old ones

2-your PCIe x1 slots ar PCIE2.0 and not PCIe 3.0 ... This will lower the bandwidth of any card you add to half .

3- Lets say you want to add USB3.1 to your system , you cant it needs PCIe x4 slot.

4- it has only 2x Sata 3 ports , you can add just 2 drives in there

5-it does not have front USB3 , If you want to use USB3 you need to ge behind the case/

6- The sound chip is not Isolated , The sound will be affected by other part adding noise to the sound

7- The soundchip is lower quality ALC 887 VS ALC1150 on better boards

8- The LAN chip is realtek Chip and not Intel

9- no dual bios protection , or USB Flash ready protection (not very important but useful)

10- no M2 slots for faster NVME SSD ..

I will show you what I mean by better component

look at this mobo :

scroll down and see

it Z170 and around $150 only

yes it is good , but the Gaming 7 is more expensive than the Gaming 5 , I thought you did not want to pay more ?

if you like the leds and lights and so yea is worth the extra cash ...

and it wont fit in your Micro ATX case ... This is Full ATX I thought you bought already the UMX3 ??

here is the Micro ATX mobo Z170 Gaming 5 if you want it to fit in your case

Hi,
If you have a non-overclockable CPU and you are on a tight budget, then H81 is the way to go. If you are after a more performance - orientated build then H97 would be the best without overclocking. H97 includes more USB 3.0 ports, and perhaps some exotic features such as an M.2 slot. There is zero difference in CPU performance between the two chipsets. As for a better performing LAN port - thats a con. All gigabit ports will perform the same. They are 1 Gigabit, and 1 Gigabit only. The only difference is the drivers and software support, which have very little impact on performance.

H97 has better support for RAM, such as full XMP support and even RAM overclocking, Performance grade stuff.

As for the Z170 motherboard you have chosen, it is good, but if you want full overclocking capabilities you want a board with an 8-Pin CPU connector to deliver more stable power to the motherboard. I would get a ASUS PRO-GAMING ITX, if you want a stable overclock above 4.5GHz.
