Please help me Upgrade my Graphics card

I have a PC with a MSI 970 Gaming MB, and the power supply is a MBP750-HS, it is non modular. I was hoping to upgrade my GT 970 to a GTX 1060. but I have not dont this before and need some advice. Or maybe its just not doable with this gear. It looks like theres plenty of room for the bigger graphics card and I believe that putting the card on the mother board should not be a problem, I read that the GTX 1060 is backwards compatible so the 3.0 card will work with the 2.0 PCIe slot on the MB. If im wrong about any of this please tell me. The thing that really worries me is that the power supply is not modular and I dont have any other cables than the ones hooked to the MB. So how can the GTX 1060 be hooked up to the power supply. Is there a adapter of some kind that I can buy to hook it up. Please advise I really want this upgrade but fear it cant be done and I cannot go and buy a new power supply to do it.

I just want to clarify. The current GPU you have is a GT 970 and not a GTX 970? Assuming you have a GTX 970, do not side grade to the 1060. the only GTX cards that would upgrade, on the Nvidia side, from a GTX 970 would be the 980, 1070, 1080, or Titan cards. If you didn't have a typo, then disregard my last sentence.

In either case, if you have a PSU that does not have power cables for PCI-E, then you couldn't put the GTX 1060 in the system. You would then have to get a power supply that would have these cables included (I can't think of a modern PSU that doesn't). Since you would need to get a new PSU, I recommend getting one that is fully modular, so you can pick and choose what you need in your system at any given point.

No the current card is the GT 730, also I believe a PCI 6+2 cable or really there should be 2 of them that were in the bundle and should be tucked into the cabinet, I just need to open it up and look for them to verify it, if true that will be one of my major concerns out of the way. I'm just not very familiar with these things. Nvidia told me that the 2.0 PCI slots on the MB will be fine because the card is 3.0 but backwards compatible. So unless you think there is some other snag in my ultimate plan for world domination lol, then upon verification of the 6+2 cables hidden in my computer I think i'm almost ready to order. I have a habit of overkill in double checking details. I don't like surprises to pop up once i start to do things. The hardest thing about computers is that often you get varying details from people, so like news and politics you need to be careful of what you actually believe lol.

oh the power supply is Sentey MBP750-HS and the manual seems to indicate there should be 2 6+2 PCI-E cables tucked inside and I just need to verify it. the guy who built the computer is on a cruise so im trying not to bother him and to do this stuff myself.

Your original post said "GT 970" which confused things.

The 1060 would be a huge upgrade over a GT 730. Make sure you check for a new BIOS for the motherboard, aside from that going from the 730 to a 1060 should be pretty much plug and play with the drivers. The power supply has the power connectors needed for the card. You'll likely just see some flashing as the card is detected.

im gonna also upgrade to win 10 64 bit so I imagine that I may have to update a bunch of drivers
