Please help me with my windows Vista Home Basic OEM

I purchased my Dell PC about 4 years ago and it came with windows vista home basic OEM installed with the sticker on the top of my tower.My PC has been getting messed up,but at that time I use to press F8 and restore my PC.Then it started to ask me for a manufacture screen name and password.I tried calling Dell,but they told me to call the place that I purchased my PC from I tried calling them and all they told me was that they couldn't do anything for me.So I had a friend of mine help me out because he said that he knew how to fix my problems,but all he did was make things worst because he installed windows XP professional and it is not a genuine copy of XP...

I just wanted to know how could I fix this problem,do I have to purchase windows vista or do I just buy a windows vista system recovery disk live boot CD/DVD and how can I tell which bit I have...I do think that it was 32 bit do not sure...Please help,thank you...

Hi. Unfortunately as your friend has installed another operating system it has wiped the dell recovery partition off your hard drive. You will therefore have to contact Dell for a restore disc I dont know how much they will charge for this but I think they are about £25 .... € 30
