I have one 290 right now and it even struggles in some games at 1080p max settings.. Im a fps whore so my fps needs to be well above 60... It needs tl constantly be in the 80 or 90s to make me happy.. But i want to upgrade for more productivity reasons as i livestream and record my gameplay so i need more power. I have a 400 dollar budget to either get a gppd single gpu card or crossfire my 290s.. But what should i do? I have never crossfired before so thats also a factor.. The rest of my system is a i5 4690k
16gb ram
120gb ssd
4tb hhd
750 evga b2 psu
Thanks!!

Solution
Single card. While your gpu can handle CF 290's I doubt your toes could. Might as well add a space heater to your room. And CF is temperamental. Some games offer good support, but just as many are pretty poorly supported compared to sli.
GTX 1060 or Rx 480. The 1060 is @ $290, the 480 is @ $240. Not a problem with fps. Max just about everything at 1080p easily. The nvidia card has ShadowPlay, so there is that option too

The best option for pretty much guaranteed high fps at max settings would be the gtx1070, but that's @$430+

Also, good luck finding a matching 290 in stock anywhere these days. Don't settle for the nvidia 1060, if you're going nvidia, get the 1070, it's a significant step up, and still in your price range. It's much better than the AMD RX 480 (which is equivalent to the nvidia 1060).
