Please Help Me

Ok so, today i got a Dell Vostro from a friend. Inside there was a 1tb seagate harddrive. I think its damaged or something because i cant use it when its not in safe mode (if you know how to fix pls help) it also has a 40gb hardrive that came with it and its on xp but upgrading from xp is a pain im pretty sure so i dont wanna do that, plus 40 gb is very little for me. My question is if i just get a brand new hardrive and put a 64bit windows 10 os on it with a graphics card will it work. Tge reason i ask is because the hardrives it came with are all in 32bit.

Intel Core 2 duo cpu 2.93 ghz

3.0 gb ram

32 bit os

Thats all the properties of the system say
