Please help me!

I recently bought a desktop, and have been having issues.
I bought a Sony headset, with mic.
I plugged it in to the mic jack, and talked. Nothing happened. Raised volume to 100 and added 30 more decibels, now even when I speak my loudest, I get one bar showing up. Please help! Why is one bar showing up when I'm screaming and my headset is a full? Also, is there a way to use it as a mic and listen with it? When I select headphones as connected device, it's a headset but mic doesn't work. When I select mic as connected device, I barely get anything and no volume! I really need help. Thanks.

All drivers are updated and all, am I missing some required drivers for my headset? It just shows up as mic not anything else. It is a Sony MDR-ZX310AP mic.

Couldn't find what topic to write this in, so I decided this one would be best. I have some headphones that have a mic, but whenever I plug them in, even to the mic thing, it shows for a second, some sound recognition, then it doesn't work.
Is there a way I can get my mic working?

Are you sure that is the model number? According to Sony that product is a set of audio headphones. Headphones are never suppose to be plugged into the mic jack, nothing will happen. Headphones are designed to be plugged into the headphone jack.

Reading the directions that I linked to very carefully I see that this product is designed to be used with smartphones, not PCs.
