Please help my mic on my headset wont work

First of all sorry if I've posted this in the wrong section, now on to the problem. So yesterday I plugged in my headset into the front panel headers of my pc. Now, here's the issue, in the Gigabyte Realtek HD Audio if I select headphone as my input then I can only hear sounds and the mic will not be recognized in windows and will only playback whatever its hearing in the headset but not my voice. If I select mic in the Gigabyte Realtek HD Audio now it will only use my mic but now I can't hear anything at all. Please help, any further information required please ask. Thanks
