PLEASE HELP! MY report is due tomorrow but now its corrupted and unreadable

Hi everyone,

My laptop is win 7. I just opened my Microsoft word yesterday and when i try to open the file today it says ' the file is corrupted and unreadable' well i tried to repair it but it didnt work it still kept popping out ' corrupted and unreadable'


I am so frustrated bcz my report in that file is due tmw T_T

See if you can copy the file first then open it. Word also has some backup opts. but you may find they were not set by default. Otherwise you may be out of luck.

The first thing to try is to right click on the file name, then click on properties and then select previous versions. Windows will search for them. If it finds one or more, choose the most recent and open it. Windows makes shadow copies for restore points automatically so you may have a copy you are not aware of. I would say if all else fails send it to your professor/teacher electronically anyways and when they get the same error they will understand.

If nothing else works you could always try to force it open in Word Pad or Notepad, but you will loose all that formatting, especially if you have to use Notepad and try to just take out the text. Yup that would suck.

I clicked properties and then it showed 'general' 'security' and 'details' well the security tab is not accessible.. where can I find the tab to select previous versions?

It is a tab right after details. If it is not there you may not have the feature enabled. So check out the links for further options. What type of document is it saved as (.doc, .txt...)?

Wordpad ignores a lot of formatting, but I guess it's too corrupted. Use notepad to try and just get the raw text, but of course it's not gonna be pretty 😛
