Please help ! My taskbar wont work on windows 8

The taskbar on my laptop won't work. When I started up my laptop, only the icon of "start" would show up at the bottom left corner. However, I can't click on the icon. Also the hot corners are also gone. I didn't reset any settings whatsoever. I don't know if this is also related, but my browser (google chrome) which usually start up quite quick if i was to open it, but just before the taskbar disappeared, the browser took more than 10 minutes to start up.

Lumia925 thanks for your reply, however, I can't access the "start" page at all, even when I press the button on the keyboard, it doesn't open.

Boot from the Windows installation disk, you will get the option to perform a system restore from there.
