Please Help... New CPU Fan Not Spinning

I just installed a new Zalman CNPS9700 cpu fan. Since, with my old stock fan, my cpu had been running hot, I decided to get a better one.

The installation process went fine. I'm running an Asus Sabertooth 990fx mobo, and a six core AMD Phenom 2.

As I went to boot the system up my computer turned on just fine. Everything except the actual cpu fan. It just doesn't spin.

I've tried tooling around in the bios and plugging the actual fan power cord into both my cpu_fan connections and several of the cha_fan connections on the motherboard. I took out the graphics cards to try and see if it was a power issue, but the most I ever got from the fan was a twitch.

I just don't even know what to do anymore... Please help me out here.

if its new and does not work why dont you return it

Does your original fan work in the same CPU_FAN header? If so, the Zalman is faulty and you should get it replaced.

I ended up re installing my old stock fan. The old one seems to be working just fine. I'm returning the product to Newegg and hoping for a refund of sorts. Thanks guys.

Well good luck. If the new fan didn't work on any of your fan connections and your old fan does, then its most likely the fan is broken on the new one. Hopefully you can get a refund or at least they will ship you a replacement.

The Sabertooth 990FX has six fan headers on the motherboard. Why on earth would you need to try it in another system?

Don't feel bad. A surprising number of fans are doa. Case fans, cpu fans etc... Not all that uncommon.
