I am losing my mind. I tore apart a working 3930k build (which is the heart of my music studio) to make a 3970x Threadripper water-cooled machine. As a newbie, I built the whole machine and water loop in the case before pressing start. Unfortunately, it showed HDD Code 02 followed by POST error.

Current issue is quick power off, solid white light (indicating VGA error) and HDD Code 02 followed by POST error.

  1. Disassembled the entire build to make it on table
  2. RMA'd the motherboard
  3. Only connections to mobo are 24 pin power, two 8-pin EATX12V powers, CPU fan header for heatsink, GPU connection
  4. Both cards (EVGA GTX 750 Ti and ASUS ROG GeForce GTX 1080) produce the same error
  5. Down to 1 RAM stick rotating in and out from a set of 8

Bizarre happenstances:
- The build posted correctly this morning with 8 sticks of RAM. Actually, it posted 3 times in a row. Then I swapped the GTX 1080 with the GTX 750 and got the current issue. Swapping the GTX 750 back in does not fix the problem. Clearing the CMOS does nothing.

Is it possible for a GPU to fry a mobo?

What am I supposed to do now?
