Please Help on system build.$1000 budget!

Well I have a lousy P4 now i want to build a PC with a budget of $1000 USD.
I'm Thinking of a SLI motherboard with a minimum of one 1GB Video card or a video card thats very powerful(EVGA and SLI ready of course), Computer Case, Power Supply, 2 To 4 Gigs of RAM, SLI motherboard(Preferrably many PCI-E slots.) AMD Processor (PHENOM or Better), DVD Drive, 400GB Hard Drive 7200 Rpm, and an operating system(Preferrably Windows XP) + Monitor. PLEASE HELP ANYBODY!!!

Well, given that you want SLI, a core i7 setup might have been the better way to go. If you do want a phenom II platform, I would have to recommend an AM3 790X or FX, meaning crossifre instead of SLI. Now given your budget, an i7 setup would be too expensive, here is an AMD setup that should fit your requirements. Got the prices from newegg.com, you could check them out.

Why use XP on a powerful system? You'll be missing out on DX10.

What resolution will you be gaming at?

Why not go crossfire if that option is readily available?

And, lastly, what games do you intend to run on it?

Yo Kevin, you just suggested to someone on here a EIDE drive, an over priced vid card for the $$$, and a psu that won't even push said vid card. Please don't be posting in here giving advice like that. Not being a jerk or anything, but if someone here ...like the OP didn't know any better and he actually went out and paid for the hardware you linked, he would have been pretty much screwed.

If i wanted to go SLI, i would perfer an i7 setup, but considering your budget, you would have to settle for an nforce 700 motherboard. Maybe something like an nforce 750i with 2 GTX 260 core 216's, and then maybe an e7400.

So maybe you could go with this 4, and leave the others as the same.

You could eventually double up your graphics card later.

Sry about the hardrive, i jus saw the 400GB's and suggested it. But I have to disagree with you on the others. A 4850X2 is an excellent card for that price. Once it is used properly, it would beat a gtx 285, its even recommended by toms in their most recent vid card for the money post. And you're wrong about the psu as well, that 500W psu is 80plus certified, and has the required pin connectors, a system with a 4850X2 would probably max out at a bit over 300W, do some research guy. To be honest, if it were me, i would prefer a slightly more powerful psu, but i'm recommending a budget system here. I don't know what it is that gives people the impression that they need such high wattage psu's when they're using gaming cards.

Tis the reason i recommended the card in the first place, if you're willing to go the dual card route, and you're on a budget, the 4850x2 is excellent.

Extrapolating from the GPU power usage chart, it looks like a single 4850X2 might use around 200W maxed. So, while a good 500W PSU should be able to handle it, it would not realistically power two of them. If you want to be able to run two of them, then something in the 650W range would be more appropriate.

Why not consider a more decently priced single slot card like the 4870. I dont think a card like a 4850X2 belongs in a budget system. The 4870 should give you enough performance to play with, and the best bang for your buck.

well i'm really going now for 4850x2 and my only problem is that someone took my Windows XP OS CD now i don't know how to upgrade to vista using the upgrade pack..coz the vista OS is really pricy... can anyone suggest a 64 bit OS? whether it will be XP or VIsta or Windows 7...hahha
