Hello everyone,
I am determined to get my issue resolved once and for all. I have this beautiful new machine at my disposal but I have nothing but resentment for it at the moment. I have been toying with PC's for about 20 years. I know enough to get me in trouble and that's about it. I just recently built my first PC from scratch (I've always tinkered).
I am having issues with random restarts and freezes. It happens most often when I'm doing something graphically intense. Even just watching a YouTube video it will sometimes restart. The freezing has happened only while playing Minecraft. When the freeze occurs I also get an audio screech that persists until hard restart.
My video card is 2 years old. I was using it in my previous outdated system with no issues whatsoever. Before I even had windows installed on the new build, I was having issues with the computer restarting.
What I have done so far:
- Did a memory check with windows, everything checked out.
- Removed 2 sticks of RAM. Problem still persists. Reinstalled RAM.
- Added small fan to NorthBridge heatsink. Temps were in the 50's, now they're in the 30's. (c)
- I was using a 2 year old Thermaltake PSU, I have replaced it with a new Corsair. No change
- I have reinstalled my video card in it's slot several times. I have updated drivers several times.
- I'm using MSI afterburner for fan control. My temps reach mid 60's under load.
After all of this my conclusion is that there is something wrong with the GPU and/or the MOBO. I am led to believe it must be the motherboard as my card had no issues before. But again I only know enough to get me in trouble. I'm looking for someone who will be willing to take the time and guide me through the process of collecting the needed data to assist in a possible resolution.
At this point I feel as though I may be needing a new MOBO. But maybe you know something I don't (surely you must). I can at least give you my parts list (there's even a video of the build in my completed builds section)

Please help. Thank you.
P.S. The only issue during the build was when I lifted the MOBO up by the NorthBridge heat-sink and the heat-sink separated from the thermal compound on the chip. I have since removed the heat-sink, cleaned off the compound, and re-seated using new compound.
