PLEASE HELP!! Switch is not recognizing my wired Internet connection!

I have been trying to set up a wired network and cannot get it working. I have Cable Internet (Suddenlink). I have my DOCSIS 3.0 modem plugged into the cable and it is working fine. My problem is when I plug the DOCSIS 3.0 modem and 2 laptops into an unmanaged switch. Only one laptop at a time is able to access the internet. I need both accessing the internet. PLEASE HELP!

You can't use a switch connected to the modem. You must use a router connected to the modem, which will allow you to connect multiple devices via NAT.

You may add a switch after the router to give your network additional ports if required.
