PLEASE HELP - Underlying hardware on Toshiba Equium NOT recognised

Hi was wondering if anybody knows what key to press to reboot my system? i keep getting a screen up asking me to input the date and when i do this nothing happens? can anybody help?

Its Windows xp

i cant get to the start menu, as soon as i turn it on is quickly shows the toshiba menu then it goes to a black screen and says : check system [f1] then when i do that it asks me to imput the date and i do that and nothing happens !! when i press escape it shuts the system down again
