Please help: Why does my computer keep crashing after I've downloaded my GPU's new driver?

I have an AMD Athlon II X4 635 2.9 GHz running Windows 7 Pro

I upgraded my stock integrated GPU to an MSI GeForce GTX 660 Ti. I've also upgraded my power supply to 750w, but other than that everything is stock HP model p2466y.

I've downloaded my latest drivers for it but every time I restart with the new drivers installed, it never fully boots, restarts on it's own and forces me into safe mode, or system restore.

After the system restore completes, I check the detailed errors and it says "bluescreen".

I just want to play games again, any advice will be gratefully appreciated..

Thanks for that information. By the looks of 'It seems like everything is fine until the drivers for my GPU is installed'. It sounds like the actual latest driver just isn't working out for you.

Try downloading a slightly older model of the driver to see if that will resolve the problem, it may result in a few less fps but if it resolves the problem then why not right?

Sorry about the recommendation to reduce clock speed, I thought it was running overclocked, that should be fine how it is.

Also, right after you experience a crash and restart have a look at the 'Event Viewer' and then under admin events you'll have a list of errors. Have a browse and look for anything that indicates what could be the issue, (please quote the event...
Have you tried driver sweep on the drivers for the gtx 660 ti. See if that can clear anything, then reboot and if it starts successfully then try and install the drivers again.

Also try toning your CPU back down to it's original clocks, not that knowledgeable on APU's (wasn't even sure that the athlon II was an APU) but it may be that your CPU is still trying to use the integrated graphics. Google around and see if you can find anything on diabling internal graphics and running solely from the graphics card.

Good luck, I can understand how you feel.

Hello l1ghtm4st3r,

First off, thanks for your reply. I tried to scan the downloaded files before I restarted using "Avast!" software, but it found no errors. I included my main drive and system files. I restarted but the problem persisted and always shuts down my cpu right before Windows loads. It then restarts and asks me to restart in Safe Mode. In safe mode I rolled back my Display Driver and that seemed to revert the problem.

It seems like everything is fine until the Drivers for my GPU is installed, then all goes to hell. I don't know how to tone my cpu clocking down yet, I'm still currently researching that process. I opened the BIOS menu but could not find how to disable the integrated GPU. So I restarted, disabled the integrated card through the Device Manager and that fixed my display to at least get it to a working size and 32bit color.

I posted the error details I received after I restarted the second time in case anyone can help me identify the problem:

Have a browse and look for anything that indicates what could be the issue, (please quote the event ID, locale ID and anything else you can offer). I would also advise, if you can actually use your system running purely off of the windows update drivers it installs, that you do just some regular basic diagnostics such as ensuring you have adequate air flow in the case, the pins and everything is all connected (seat and reseat the card) I know that solved a huge problem for me when it was with my hard disk, and also try running Memtest86+ to eliminate any other chances of the problem not being graphics related.

I'm too knowledgeable in the errors that Windows encounters but I'll assist you as well as I can.

Have a quick scan through this as well to see if anything can help:

Thanks and good luck.
