Please Help! Windows Boot

I currently have a windows laptop with windows 10. (which i upgraded from windows 8)
I unhooked the battery and found my windows product key, will i be able to use my laptop product key on a new install windows 10 onto my custom pc that doesnt have any os? Please help! If this seems like an idiotic question then i apologize. I am extremely unaware of how windows os works. Thanks in advance.
