hi

i have a budget of nothing over $300 and would like a PC to play some old games like Abe's Odyssey and Oblivion. so yeah, older type games.

so what about this PC?

https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Dell-Optiplex-9020-Desktop-500GB-HDD-4GB-Ram-Windows-10-Pro-Intel-Core-i5-3-2GHz/223093210181?epid=1967239284&hash=item33f1643c45

is it basically the idea for cheap PC to game on , to buy an oldish computer and install a new good graphics card?

Please link me to some suggestions from the Australian Ebay site as this is where i will buy the PC

with the older games that you mention even the integrated graphics (e.g. intel 4600 on the listing you posted) would be sufficient

also keep in mind that with that dell optiplex you would need low profile graphics card

It's not a bad way to get started. And as long as your expectations are kept in check it will likely be suitable for what you have in mind. A few things come to mind which you should consider when going this route.

1. Prebuilt PCs may use proprietary components which limit what and how you upgrade.
2. Prebuilt PCs may have a locked BIOS preventing certain GPU (and CPU) upgrades.
3. The PSU which comes with it may not be powerful enough to drive a graphics card.
