I have a 1 x XFX Double D FX-787A-CDFC Radeon HD 7870 GHz Edition 2GB 256-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX gpu and while playing assassins creed i only manage a constant fps of 25? This was my first pc build and I am wondering what I can do to increase my fps. I am also running a AMD fx-6100 overclocked to 4 ghz on an a ASUS M5A97 LE R2.0 AM3+ AMD 970 ATX AMD Motherboard. If anyone can give me some ideas on how to increase my fps it would be greatly appreciated.

First of all, let me ask you about your complete PC Specifications, Settings you're running at, which version of Assassin Creed Game and Screen Resolution.
Also check if other Softwares aren't interrupting the performance.

CPU:AMD FX-6100 Zambezi 6-Core 3.3GHz Socket AM3+ 95W
CPU Cooler: Phanteks PH-TC14PE_BL 140mm CPU Cooler
Motherboard: ASUS M5A97 LE R2.0 AM3+ AMD 970 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD
GPU: XFX Double D FX-787A-CDFC Radeon HD 7870 GHz Edition 2GB 256-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX
Ram: G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600
Power supply: Antec NeoECO C NeoECO 620C 620W ATX12V 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Power Supply

I am running assassins creed black flag...i did test my fps on far cry 3 and im anywhere from 40-64fps on ultra settings.
I was looking into upgrading my gpu to the amd r9 290 any thoughts on that?

The card itself is brilliant but your cpu may cause a slight bottleneck. I would advice either overclocking it or upgrading the cpu. Also, try overclocking your cpu before buying your parts to see if this impacts your performance. :)
