Hi everyone, I want to overclock my Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 CPU to maybe 3.0 GHz. Right now it is at 2.4 GHz. My motherboard is the one that comes with the Dell Precision 390 desktop. I don't think I have a cooler in there but I can check if I have to. Could you guys tell me how to overclock my cpu?

I also have 3.25 GB of ram and I have a GeForce GTX 650 video card if that helps at all.

Solution
Yes, It will auto overclock to 3.0GHz if your Motherboard supports 1333 FSB. It should be stable but I can't guarantee it. Other than this mod you are SOL. 775 boards are hard to come by.
You cannot overclock on an OEM Motherboard. However if your motherboard supports 1333 fsb you can..........https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/385435/cooling-and-case-modding/intel-q6600-mod-simple-enough-for-idiots/

So I have to tape that piece in order to overclock?

Ok so not any type of tape will work? I just put the tape onto that one pin and then my cpu will work at 3.0 ghz? That's really easy and I'll definitely try it. The only concern I have is if I don't have a cooler, could my computer break? And would it work without a cooler?
