Please! I Need help and tips on how to properly clean and apply thermal paste to heatsink and cpu!

Hello people! I recently started learning about fixing computers and I am replacing the CUP's Fan and Heatsink on my Inspiron 1564.

I bought the parts new and I also bought the Artic Silver 5 Thermal compound kit with the cleaning solutions and stuff.

I just want to know how careful should i be when cleaning the cpu? can i actually use the cleaning liquids on it? or how should I proceed? Any suggestions or things i should know?

Here are the instructions on how to apply the thermal paste, and you can find isntructions on the cleaning too, I usually use Isoprophyl alcohol and one of those fiber cloths.
