Few games can use more than 2-3 cores, so a 6 core cpu is somewhat of a waste.

If budget is any concern, I would favor using a i7-4790K and a Z97 based motherboard.

If you are gaming on a single monitor then a single GTX980 will be all you want.
With the money you save from the X99 build, you could pay for a second GTX980 if you ever needed it.

I also think a single 1tb ssd will perform equally but would be cheaper.
It is easier to manage one drive vs two.
